The Perfect Red Lip

THE PERFECT RED LIP

Do you think wearing red lipstick is a no no? or feel that it`s not for you??

Believe me I understand , having been blessed with small flat lips I always thought it was a no no, only people like Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Dita von Tease, Kim Kardashian in other words full lipped beauties.

But now I believe different!!

Working with the public and fellow makeup artists on a daily basis made me realize 99% of people believe Red lipstick is not for them. People believe it’s for Blonde hair sun kissed skin, Dark hair Fair skinned, People with more outgoing personalities etc….

I believe it’s all to do with picking the correct tone of red to complement our skin tones.

REDS are divided into two basic categories:

1 - Cool blue-based shades (such as cranberry or wine). Blue-based reds flatter women with pinker, rosier skin tones - MAC Cosmetics Russian Red Lipstick. This amazing matte lipstick from mac is a deep red with a blue undertone. It is a really intense colour and works well on pale skin. Also the blueish tint to it makes teeth appear whiter, result

2 - Warm orange-based shades (such as brick red). These reds are more appropriate for women whose skin has golden, peach or tan tones -MAC's Lady Danger. Described by MAC as a Vivid Bright Coral-Red with a matte finish, it is actually a bright red shade with a strong orange/coral undertone.

Products needed:

1.       Your choice of lipstick

2.       Lip liner to compliment the lipstick, opt for a shade slightly darker than the lipstick.

3.       Concealer – Light in color

4.       Powder – light in color

Now the how to create the perfect look

1.       Having already applied the foundation. Apply a small amount of powder on the lip.

2.       Apply lip liner on the lips, slightly pushing the lip line, but don`t go over. Now go back to the lips with the lip liner and fully shade the lips in with the lip liner (YES all the lips).  This eliminates any bleeding from the lipstick and holds the lipstick a lot longer.

3.       Apply the lipstick with a lip brush, making sure no lipstick goes outside the lip liner. If any Lipstick accidently goes over, take your light concealer and use it as a magic eraser.

4.       To make the lipstick looks perfect, apply powder around the lips, this further eliminates bleeding and gives the image of the perfect red lip!

Working in MAC, as a team we had red lips days, I realized a few things. Don`t even bother applying red lipstick without lip liner and always make sure you eliminate bleeding ie.powder – there’s nothing worse!

Thanks guys, any questions please ask.
